Cauldrons of Samhain

According to a mystical Irish text recorded in the 7th century CE by a filí {sacred poet} named Amergin Glúingel, each person is born with three cauldrons within them. The foundational cauldron, the Cauldron of Warming, is located in the belly and is upright in every person. It holds the source of our physical well-being, and may fall onto its side when a person is severely unwell, or turn upside down at the moment of death. This is also the cauldron from which the young receive their wisdom. The second cauldron, the Cauldron of Motion, is located in the heart. This cauldron contains our magical, spiritual, artistic, and poetic abilities and its orientation varies. In those with no abilities, it is inverted. In those with mid-level skills, it is on its side. Finally, in those who have the highest levels of knowledge, inspiration, and grace, this cauldron is upright. The position of this cauldron is not fixed, and it may turn from inverted or sideways to upright through an artistic journey caused by either joy or sorrow, for both emotions invoke imbas {a divine poetic spark channeled from the Otherworld}. The third and final cauldron, the Cauldron of Wisdom, is located in the head and is initially upside down in all people. Only when one has mastered the skills and gifts of the previous cauldrons will the Cauldron of Wisdom turn upright. It pours wisdom into every art and raises those who practice to divine levels of inspiration. Once upright, this cauldron will continue to build a person up through their artistic gifts. These concepts have underlied my cauldron necklaces since their inception many years ago, and this batch of Samhain-inspired ones is no different. Warm Baltic Amber and moody smoky quartz combine with much of my signature imagery: lily of the valley, Celtic knots, crescent moons in triple moon formations, and a poppet representing the spirit of the harvest. These sterling silver hollow vessels are talismans of abundance, inspiration, and transformation. They serve as a reminder that it is possible to alchemize both joy and sorrow, as ancient Irish wisdom tells us.
