Only when the seed falls into total darkness deep within the earth, may it initiate its next phase of growth and emerge fully transformed. The seed is the smallest of beginnings, emblematic of the hidden seeding-grounds within ourselves, where we privately nurture the foundations of what is yet to come. It is concentrated energy, and the price to release that energy is the death of its old self. All of these traits swirled in my mind as I crafted these poppy pod pendants, cast immortal in sterling silver from the real thing. Poppy pods contain tens to hundreds of seeds, and have symbolized abundance and power since ancient times. Like Persephone, they are forced to endure the darkness in order to grow in the light, and they embody the dualities of life and death, above and below, and latent and manifest energies. May these pendants remind the wearers of the growth they’ve shown in the most challenging of atmospheres, of the cumulative power of even the smallest starts, and of all that is bound up within them, waiting to be released into the world. These pendants swing from 16, 18, and 20 inch chains, and feature a tag with my maker's mark hanging from the clasp portion. They have been blackened and sanded to highlight the textures.
