This ring is the result of my desire to capture the myth of Persephone in a classic cluster ring design transformed through opulent details and modern inspiration. Greek myth states that while out gathering flowers with her mother Demeter, Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld. A distraught Demeter abandoned her duties as goddess of agriculture, and so the earth went barren in Persephone's absence. Desperate, Demeter begged Zeus to intervene, and he ruled that since Persephone had partaken in the food of the dead by eating six seeds of a pomegranate while in the underworld, she must return there for six months of each year. Thus, each Autumn Equinox marks Persephone's descent, her return to the darkness. In the center of this cluster ring sits a piece of petrified palm root, the fiery appearance of which captures the essence of Persephone's underworld home, and the dual coloring of which echoes the duality of her tale. Eight garnets surround this center stone, representative of the pomegranate seeds that sealed Persephone's fate in the first place. Handmade swirling vines and etched floral details remind us that when Persephone returns, so too shall growth and verdancy. Finally, mystical 14k gold fill crescent moons tie in the divine feminine and the cycles of waxing and waning, death and rebirth, departure and return. The scene rests upon a wide, tapered band with my maker's mark and .925 on the inside. It has been blackened and polished to mirror the mood of the myth.
-- Details -- Size 7 1/2. Please note that wide bands tend to feel slightly more snug than standard bands of the same size, so some people prefer to size up 1/4 to 1/2 a size.
