Persephone Triple Moon Pendant

The myth of Persephone has seen quite a resurgence in recent years. It seems that one of the main reasons for that is that we all have our own version of being trapped in the underworld. Whether it’s loss, trauma, isolation, or a period spent wandering unfamiliar terrain, each of us can draw parallels to our own experiences when we read Persephone’s story. Many of us relate to the archetype of the daughter lost in hell, and just as Persephone ultimately becomes Queen and re-emerges from the underworld bearing poppies - a symbol of abundance and medicine for troubled minds - so we are able to find wisdom and strength in the shadows, and emerge stronger and more connected to ourselves than before. These concepts nestled in my mind as I created this triple moon statement necklace. A high-quality, glassy orb of petrified palm wood takes the position of full moon, its natural patterns ever-reminiscent of dancing underworld flames. Bare branches cast in silver from actual twigs encircle the stone, symbolizing the cycles of life, death, rebirth, and transformation. On each side of this scene sits sterling crescent moons adorned with entirely handmade poppies and their leaves. The crescents complete the triple moon formation, emphasizing the cyclical and phasic nature of Persephone’s tale, and incorporating divine feminine power. I crafted this jewel to serve as a reminder of all the wearer as overcome, and of the opportunities for growth and self-knowledge even during the most difficult of times. This necklace measures 18 inches long and features my maker's mark and .925 for sterling on the back.
