Manassa Turquoise Sunflower Fields Ring - Size 6 3/4

Regular price $ 396.00

A truly special piece of Manassa turquoise is the centerpiece of this sterling silver ring. Manassa turquoise is rare and collectible to begin with (read more about this mine below), but this stone is also particularly high quality with the golden matrix and emerald green hues ideal in material from this mine. Above it sits a beautifully cast sterling sunflower, accompanied by two hand cut sterling leaves. It is intuitive to me to work with sunflowers at this time of year, because in my mind they are the perfect flower for the time between summer and fall. Liminal spaces - where one realm or one time meets another - and the things that occur and grow in those spaces, were held in hallowed regard by the ancient Celts. I feel that same sacredness and balance in them as well. The creation of these rings, like most of my pieces, are a meditation on ancient practice, a creative ritual for this time of year, and an ode to something sacred to me. This scene sits atop a wide sterling band, of which my maker's mark and .925 for sterling adorn the inside. Rustically darkened, sanded, and polished to highlight the details, this ring is perfect for those who want to feel close to the earth and its seasons.

-- About the Turquoise Mine --
The Manassa mine, also known as the Lickskillet or King's Manassa mine, is located in Colorado. It is believed that this mine has been worked since ancient times by the Pueblo peoples. It is best known for producing light to dark green turquoise with golden brown non-webbed matrix, although it does produce striking blue material as well. This material is very rare and hard to get, making it a great addition to any turquoise collection.
