“I have found the warm caves in the woods, filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves, closets, silks, innumerable goods; fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves: whining, rearranging the disaligned. A woman like that is misunderstood. I have been her kind.”
Since I can remember, two things have been true about me: I’ve always been a collector of natural and magical treasures, and I’ve always loved witches. Because of those deep-seated loves, the above words from “Her Kind” by Anne Sexton have always struck a chord with me. They evoke images of a sea witch who, in her cottage full of beach trinkets and energetic artifacts, cares for magical creatures and practices her craft in solitude. The Her Kind Ring was created with these images swirling in my mind. I arranged and rearranged the details around these three stones for hours before the right combination came to me, as the words “rearranging the disaligned” played in my head. I chose three natural Kingman turquoise nuggets for this piece, that are cut in a way to keep their surfaces as close to how they were straight out of the ground. I surrounded them with a collection of natural treasures in the form of sterling driftwood and twigs, pebbles, moons, and scallop shells. This is my ode to “women like that”. I am her kind. This magical ring sits atop a triple split shank, and my maker's mark and .925 for sterling adorn the underside of it. A true heirloom piece steeped in poetic inspiration and complex design.

-- About the Turquoise Mine -- The famous Kingman mine is located in Arizona, and was first discovered and mined by ancient Native American civilizations. It is one of the most well known turquoise mines of the American Southwest, and is known to produce all shades of blue and some shades of green, with many color matrices possible. Only 3% of the turquoise that comes from this mine is left natural, the rest is stabilized, so natural Kingman turquoise is both rare and collectible.
