One of my favorite aspects of Persephone is her duality. She is at once Queen of the Underworld and a child of Earth, representative of both fertility and desolation, and her tale unfolds in realms of light and darkness that are above and below each other. Her descent ushers in the fall and leaves the earth barren, while her return is a harbinger of spring and signals regrowth. I created a pair of talismans to capture these narratives. They each feature luminescent rutilated quartz points paired with blood-red garnets in an as above so below formation. Sun and moon imagery appear in the metalwork of each piece, in the form of a 14k gold fill crescent moon alongside the garnet and abstract sun symbols along the bezel. This talisman features thick golden rutilations and hangs from a cast sterling branch, while the other features a smokier quartz with subtle rutilations and hangs from a strip of flowers.
-- Details -- Sterling silver. 14k gold fill. Please note that gold fill is not the same as plated. It is a thick layer of gold bonded to base metal and will not flake or peel. Natural garnet and natural rutilated quartz. Pendant measures 1 3/4 inches tall including bail. 18 inch sterling chain and clasp. Please note that due to factors such as neck size and torso length, the piece may fall differently on the model than on you. You will receive the pictured necklace.
