At the Autumn Equinox, I am reminded of the myth of Persephone, who while out gathering flowers with her mother Demeter, was kidnapped by Hades and imprisoned in the underworld. A distraught Demeter abandoned her duties as goddess of the grain and harvest, so the crops withered horribly in Persephone's absence. Ultimately, Demeter begged Zeus to intervene, who decided that since Persephone had eaten six pomegranate seeds while in the underworld, there she must spend 6 months of each year. The Autumn Equinox marks Persephone's annual return to the underworld, and the beginning of the more barren months caused by Demeter's heartbreak. This cuff encapsulates this myth. Three intensely high grade and rare petrified palm root specimens capture the essence of the underworld, while two almandine garnets set in 14k gold fill at each end of the cuff evoke the pomegranate seeds that sealed Persephone's fate. Crescent moons rest between the petrified wood and garnets, a symbol of the dark half of the year which is ushered in by Persephone's descent into the underworld, and also represents the seasonal cycles of life and death, waxing and waning. My maker's mark and .925 for sterling adorn the underside of the main stone setting, and the piece has been given a matte finish to echo the mood of the myth.
-- Details -- Total cuff length is 5 11/16 inches plus a 1 inch gap. For my shop, this is considered a size small to medium, but I recommend measuring your wrist to be sure. Slightly adjustable. Sterling silver. 14k gold fill. Please note that gold fill will NOT flake or peel like gold plate. It is a thick layer of gold bonded to base metal. Cuff face measures 2 1/4 inches tall. Natural garnet. Natural petrified palm root. You will receive the pictured cuff.
*TO PUT ON CUFF: Please roll opening over your wrist, starting from the thumb side of your wrist and rolling the opening across the top. Do not pull ends of cuff away from each other, as this will mar the shape of the bracelet.
