Cailleach's Sceptre Ring ✦ Size just over 10 ✦ The Age of the Cailleach Collection
This sterling ring was inspired by the divine crone giant and winter goddess of Celtic mythology, named the Cailleach, and specifically to her most powerful tool: her slachdan (magical Druid wand/staff). At the final harvest of Samhain, when the last stalks of wheat - said to contain her spirit - meet the bending blade of scythes, the Cailleach emerges. With her great wand she strikes the land, freezing it, and initiates the cold and dark months over which she rules. As the winter progresses, the Cailleach wanders the earth, bringing ice and snow in her wake. Although she is the bringer of cold and darkness, she also functions as a guide through these conditions. She aids in transitions, serves as a protector, and helps us to prune that which no longer serves us. I created this ring in ode to the Cailleach and her ancient powers. It features a glowing natural moonstone, topped with a sterling crescent moon. Further tying in the divine feminine and the phasic nature of all things is a triquetra, with a scythe and wheat crossed beneath it. This imagery is my sigil of the Cailleach, and I’ve featured it in this jewel so that it may channel her lessons and guidance. This scene sits atop a wide band with my maker's mark and .925 for sterling on the inside. This piece has been darkened and selectively polished to highlight the details, and to create the air of an ancient jewel unearthed from the frozen land.
