Blessings from the Underworld Pendant

I’m forever intrigued by Persephone’s duality, by her simultaneous roles as Queen of the Underworld and harbinger of spring, by her ties to each end of the cycle of life and death, and by her eternal journeys between disparate realms. The Blessings from the Underworld Pendant is inspired by this joining of opposites, and by the peace that may befall us when we embrace all parts of ourselves. It is meant to serve as a protective talisman for journeys both inward and outward, and to remind the wearer to nourish equally the dualities of your heart. In this sterling silver necklace, a high quality crescent moon of natural petrified wood, with a fiery pattern and split coloring, echoes the flames of the underworld and the balance between dark and light. Three handmade oak leaves fall below, representative of the abundance to be found in the shadows. On the center leaf sits a natural rose cut garnet, which sparkles like the pomegranate seeds that sealed Persephone’s fate. This ode to myth, symbol, and season has been blackened and selectively polished to echo the mood of the myth, and hangs 18 inches long. My maker's mark and .925 for sterling adorn the back of the pendant.
