Amber (with insect!) Sunflower Fields Ring - Size 7 3/4
A teardrop natural amber* (fossilized tree resin) glows like the end of summer sun in this sterling silver ring. Not only is this stone special to me because I cut it myself from rough acquired back in 2013, but also because it has an insect preserved inside it: a rare and amazing phenomenon for amber. I believe the insect is a mosquito. Above the stone sits a beautifully cast sterling sunflower, accompanied by two hand cut sterling leaves. It is intuitive to me to work with sunflowers at this time of year, because in my mind they are the perfect flower for the time between summer and fall. Liminal spaces - where one realm or one time meets another - and the things that occur and grow in those spaces, were held in hallowed regard by the ancient Celts. I feel that same sacredness and balance in them as well. The creation of these rings, like most of my pieces, are a meditation on ancient practice, a creative ritual for this time of year, and an ode to something sacred to me. This scene sits atop a wide sterling band, of which my maker's mark and .925 for sterling adorn the inside. Rustically darkened, sanded, and polished to highlight the details, this ring is perfect for those who want to feel close to the earth and its seasons.
*I advise gentle care with all of my jewelry, but please note that amber is a soft material that requires attentive wear. If you tend to be rough on your rings, this may not be the piece for you.
-- Details -- Size 7 3/4. Please note that wide bands tend to feel more snug than standard bands, so some people prefer to size up slightly. Sterling silver. Natural amber with insect preserved inside. Ring face measures 2 3/4 inches tall. You will receive the pictured ring.
