Over the last year I’ve collected these magical moon shaped dishes from various antique shops around the country. Oddly enough, they were meant to hold bones discarded during a meal. Their crescent shape allowed them to curve around the main plate, and they were considered essential to any Victorian-era dinner spread. To me, they serve a much more enchanting purpose than bone receptacles. Perfect for holding jewelry, crystals, dried flowers, or adding potent symbolism to your home, they doubly evoke the power of the seasons. Their crescent shape alludes to waxing and waning, the cycle of life and death, and our ever-changing personal phases, while their floral patterns remind us of the abundance that comes from growth, and the fertility that is possible even after the most barren of times.
